He was a classic fine boy. The exact type I liked. Looking at him from where I sat, all I wanted was for him to get close so we could talk.
He wasn’t our classmate but he too was studying engineering at the time in another university. He was chatting with Nonso. In my head, I immediately plotted a plan to get us to talk. Nonso was my number one bobo in class so it was easy.
“Nonso!!!!! You look good today o. This one you are smiling up and down. Tell me the secret na”. I said to Nonso as I walked to where he was.
” Hey, Joyastic Joya. It’s the Lord’s doing. Meet my friend Vic. Vic, meet my number one sure babe for this class. Her name is Joy.”
I was overjoyed in my heart. God bless Nonso. Ha! How did he know what I was looking for? I didn’t even need to ask!
“Hi Vic. It’s a pleasure meeting you. What department are you in?” I asked immediately and with enough composure.
“I am in engineering but not in this university”. He said.
” Oh, wow. You came from another school to see your friend? That’s lovely”. I said while smiling and giving Nonso the lovey-dovey body language.
Well, the good news is my magic worked. We took it up from there. Exchanged numbers and we got talking afterward.
IT IS TRUE WHEN THEY SAY THE UNIVERSE GIVES YOU WHAT YOU ASK FOR. SO YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL.
I and Vic got talking. After a month, he asked me out. Prayer answered! Job done!! Magic well conjured!!! I was feeling like a pro.
That first kiss was magical, shy, beautiful. He was my first.
I was gushing about how I was dating a fine boy, built, speaks well, dresses well, neat. I wouldn’t say about intelligence because we never held any intelligent discussion but I wasn’t bothered. I started inviting my friends to my house just so I could show him off. I was drunk in love.
Later on, I started noticing a trend. Whenever Vic came around, he always liked to set the mood from default to sexual. I wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t want it. I shared my fears with him and he kept on telling me “Nothing will happen. It is your way of showing how much you love me”.
I didn’t believe him. I loved him already. I was drunk in love and that was more than enough.
I started inviting my friend, Tee to my room. Whenever Vic called to say he was coming, I will call Tee. She will stay until Vic left. I knew he was angry. I knew he didn’t like the idea. He asked me one day ” Why is Tee always here when I come? I want us to have our private time and she disturbs that. Fix it”.
I didn’t want to lose him. I didn’t want his touch either. But I felt he would overgrow it.
Valentine’s day was fast approaching and I was clueless about what to do for Vic. He called me and said he wanted a romantic time with me. Even my villagers could hear my heartbeat. I knew Vic. That romantic time was going to be in a bedroom.
I immediately told him I booked a space at a restaurant. That was a lie. I didn’t even have the money. But guess what? He knew.
Vic had earlier met one of my childhood friends, August. They said hi casually to each other in my presence and that was it. He had also met Frances. Frances was my course mate. Frances wasn’t a huge fan of Vic but hey, he was dating her friend so she had to manage to breathe whenever he was around.
He later called me to come to the restaurant where he and his big brother was. His big brother was cute and was indeed a ‘big’ brother.
On getting there, I saw August. But she wasn’t my problem as I walked towards Vic. We hugged and he pecked me on my forehead. The moment I sat down, I got uncomfortable and confused.
August was flirting in my presence with my Vic and his brother. In my mind, I was like “B**ch, make up your damn mind!
I wasn’t happy. Fighting because of a man wasn’t in my resume. It was not in my area of expertise. I picked up my phone to send a text to Frances when her text came in. I read it and went cold. My heart became sandy. My smile vanished. I looked at Vic and felt heartbroken.
He was asking my friend Frances out! The same Frances who didn’t like him. August was there performing her arts and I just didn’t know what to do. I stood up and told them I was leaving. I didn’t even have water. I left!
4 days later, Vic came to visit me. I was lying on my bed when he came in so I adjusted immediately. We exchanged cold pleasantries as he dragged a chair to sit. Then his speech began.
” Joy, I don’t feel this relationship anymore. You are a good girl and I’m not looking to date a good girl. You are a wife material but I’m not looking to get married soon. I want to explore as much as I want and I can’t do that with you. It’s over. I don’t want this anymore”.
I was confused. Why? We were good. “Please, Vic. Don’t do this. If we aren’t intimate, all I’m asking for is some time.” I said with tears in my ears, my voice shaky and my heart shattered.
Vic stood up and walked out. I cried so hard. I was hurt. He asked my friend out and couldn’t bring myself to confront him yet he broke my heart. At that time, I had to leave my house to Frances’ house.
I tried to keep in touch with Vic but his mind was made up. I even tried to go through his brother but all to no avail. What will a girl in love do?
Looking back then, I can’t help but laugh at my stupidity. Like girl, what the hell were you crying for?
Well, I had to start living life, it was beautiful until I met Kene.
To be continued….
